The weekend arrived and it was time to try another new restaurant. I saw a lot of posts on my social media feed about Zark’s Burgers and that they had just opened in SM City Cebu, so I just had to give it a try! Was it worth the hype? Read on below to find out.
I met up with one of my best friends, Kelly, and we met up at SM City Cebu. Zark’s Burgers is located on the 2nd floor, near the entrance or exit that goes to Radisson Blu. It’s also near the SM food court. Just ask around, you can’t miss it. They are open during the standard mall hours. What greeted us was a long line of about 7-8 people, so we had to wait our turn.
So while waiting to be seated, we were able to take a few pictures of the menu and decide on what meal we wanted. They classify their burgers into two categories, Minor League and Major League. For Minor League, they have smaller burgers, and you still have to add PHP 35.00 for fries and drinks and PHP 60.00 for fries and bottomless drinks. For Major League, the burgers are bigger and they already come with fries and drinks and you just add PHP 35.00 if you want it bottomless. You have your pick of either Blue Lemonade or Iced Tea for drinks.
We decided to go for some meals in the Major League. Based on the name and description, all of them were equally exciting. I can just imagine the deep fried bacon wrapped burger. Can you imagine that? A burger that is wrapped in bacon? They also have the Luther Burger, which is a double cheeseburger with bacon served on glazed donuts! Don’t get me started on the Jawbreaker or Tombstone, which each have their own challenges where you can get a free t-shirt! Take note, the meal won’t be free, but you will win a t-shirt and you will have a spot on their name wall if you manage to finish the meal within the set time. Talk about Epic Mealtime proportions with a triple and quadruple patty serving!
They also have other meals like rice or starter meals, hotdogs, sandwiches, desserts, dips & sauces, and other drinks, if burgers aren’t exactly your thing.
After waiting about 15 minutes outside, we had another 10-15 minute wait inside, which was perfectly reasonable with how jam packed the place was. We were getting hungrier and hungrier, and the smell of the burgers was tantalizing!
Finally, our burgers arrived!
This is the Philly Cheese Steak Burger, which is a 1/4 pound patty with beef sirloin strips, served with lettuce, caramelized onions, tomatoes and lots of cheese. It was served with fries and blue lemonade. This is priced at PHP 210.00.
My friend had the Stone Cold Stunner (any wrestling fans out there?), and it was a double cheeseburger topped with two strips of bacon on a bed of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms and caramelized onions. It was also served with fries and blue lemonade. This one is priced at PHP 220.00.
And how did it taste? I really liked the huge servings, and it was pretty affordable at around PHP 200.00++ to come with fries and a drink already. I didn’t like the bun, as it didn’t have sesame seeds and it was kind of bland. I would have liked for them to char the bun a bit, or maybe improve the quality of the bun, maybe add a bit more flavor or sesame seeds or something. The rest of the burger was pretty good, if a bit under seasoned. I liked the char on the patty, and the ingredients were fresh, but nothing to write home about. Personally, I like the taste of Burger Joint and Flame It better. But not to say that this isn’t good and well priced, it just didn’t hit the home run for me. But I can definitely recommend people to give it a try nonetheless.
You can check out Zark’s Burgers on their Facebook page here, as well as their Twitter page here, and Instagram here. They’re open in a lot of SM branches in Luzon and in areas like Taft, Eastwood and Katipunan. This is their first branch here in Cebu.
